I got into IT after being laid off from a railroad job I had. I was a welder for 7 years and did law enforcement military before that. I had absolutely no tech experience! I applied to as many jobs as I could until someone called me back. Started that job only making 15 an hour. This is 2022 I now make 70k! … 2024! You can get as many certificates as you want! You can get as many degrees as you want. But if you do not have a love for tech and know how to do the job you are applying for… Don’t even bother! And that’s some truth for ya

Yeah Dell has moved to that and I'm new and since it's enforced they're tracking us by your badging you get flagged green yellow and red you hv to be in the office at least 39days per qtr. My manger said I cant be anywhere other than MY HOME on my wfh days which is twice a week at home. None of my coworkers knew about the hack I knew bc I read that stuff often

I learned Splunk for the role I have now. Jumping into an already built environment is rough because everyone has already contributed to the fields. Figuring out the already added fields is a struggle in itself and using a wildcard search would give you everything meaning nothing 😮‍💨

I just completed Google IT Professional and Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificates. This is a find for somebody like me that have IT experience but new to the Cybersecurity space. It's such a good feeling to understand the terms being discussed in this video that will assist me in fine tuning my Cybersecurity test environment in my Home Lab. I smoke a pack a day praying I'll get a heart attack working a job that I hate with people I dispise for the past 3 years. And I earn less than 1/5th of what you were getting. I was only able to put a down payment on a tiny apartment 2 year's ago from the 1950's. And I'm old man, I've worked so many jobs that pay minumum wage. Dude...any/every man I know would kill to make this amount. For their kids. Do you realize that with 2-3 years you could have lived in a mansion in the Italian country side on the Mediterranean sea and not have to work for 30 years?

I'm only going for Security+ now because all job requirements I'm running into that I may qualify for have Security+ as a req... This will not guarantee me anything still as I have to know the whole human library knowledge from A-Z like I'm some sort of AI robot, before anyone cares to look at me for an interview.

Any help woukd be appreciated how woukd you rank these EDR priority. I want to focus on learning 1 or 2 of these edr. Proofpoint, Crowdstrike, SentinelOne hmmn CS is popular and looks great on resume. So little time man to study and do hive/ jira tickets. Now Siem I'm on Splunk now uhh omg its different from Qradar. I think Splunk enterprise is more popular vs old Qradar. I gate in QRadar so many windows open.

I have one of the toughest certs CISSP. If you can get that off rip with no college then you saved a ton of time and money.

Who says that a job can make you rich anyway? You work to gain skills and experience, and then you establish your own services based on the skills that you have acquired.

Its simple. Can you get a job without a degree? Yes..many have done it. And those ppl most likely got in b/c they already worked for the company or knew important ppl. Bet they didnt get it applying online! Go on Indeed, type in your target role and look at the requirements. 90% ask for some kind of tech degree. If you want to get thru the online HR filter, get one.

Great advise. I know I definitely have been doing this once I figured out where I want to be in the field (at this point in time, looking at GRC, Compliance, etc.) I do have many skills that can apply to those jobs and I've been focusing on and applying for those.

Your school always matter but theirs trends where gov tech and private sector won’t look at your resume unless u have a cert. I’m noticing I have more education than the folks interviewing me but they have the experience and certs.

Context is everything and cats like the man in the video sounds like he's doing a setup to sell you something. At some point some need to have due diligence in what their getting into instead of believing everything they hear. I'm personally getting a degree currently because I chose to look past the right now. Yea you can gain the XP but make no mistake when you're competing, you need every tool and asset in your arsenal.
